Our Favourite Design Trends for 2020

Our Favourite Interior Design Trends for 2020

Customers tell us that one of the most enjoyable parts of the process of building their Quality Home is the interior design stage. When you are building a new Quality Home, you get to work directly with our in-house design team to choose the finishes and colours that you’ve always dreamed of.

If you are building a Quality Home in 2020, here are a few of our projected kitchen and bathroom trends:

Kitchen Trends for 2020

#1: Kitchen backsplashes that extend into a shelf. Backsplashes that extend into a narrow shelf are not only useful for displaying prized or decorative items, but they are incredibly chic as well. Usually, these backsplashes are made from a natural material like marble or granite.

#2: Black cabinetry. If you really want your kitchen to make a statement, consider matte black cabinets. Black cabinets can look great on their own, but you can also mix them with a lighter colour tone or wood cabinets. Because black can also darken a room, this trend does work best when you have a more open-concept kitchen.

#3: Natural materials. Using natural materials is going to be BIG in 2020. Finishes such as wood, quartz and marble are being used to create both classic and minimalist looks.

#4: Oversized pantries. If your kitchen is large enough, having an oversized pantry is like having a room within a room. Forget about having to search in dark corners of a cabinet in order to find the sugar and instead have everything laid out for you – neat and organized. You may even have room in your oversized pantry to create a coffee station or to store small appliances. Just make sure that you give yourself enough lighting in the design.

#5: Hidden range hoods. Let’s face it, range hoods aren’t exactly the most attractive feature of a kitchen. That’s why in 2020, we are seeing some very successful attempts to hide or camouflage them. Range hoods can be disguised with upper cabinets or the air duct can be hidden in the wall.

Bathroom Trends for 2020

#1: Minimalist bathroom fittings. In 2020, we are seeing bathrooms with sleek, modern designs. Fittings such as faucets and showerheads are being paired down from flashy chrome to elegant copper, gold, or black.

#2: Open showers. Open-concept Italian showers are incredibly popular. In particular, showers with multiple functions such as misting systems, benches and ambient lighting are in high demand. Consider making your bathroom appear more spacious by separating the shower/bath area from the rest of the bathroom with a glass wall.

#3: Console-style vanities. If you want your bathroom to be on point for the new decade, consider incorporating a console-style vanity rather than the larger cabinet style of decades past. This is a particularly elegant trend from smaller bathrooms and powder rooms.

#4: Refined tiling. When it comes to bathroom tiles this year, flashy is out and refined is in. Choose a neutral or simple colour that will stand the test of time. Have fun selecting tiles with subtle details that will add timeless luxury to your bathroom.
